    Hi,

    Solution as follows:

    1. Load factor

    From Table 1,

    Load factor for clay (L) = 0.77

    2. Bucket fill factor

    From Table 2,

Bucket fill factor for hard clay (F) = 0.65 to 0.95

    Average value of (F) = 0.80

    3. Swing depth factor

    Given Data:

    · Depth of excavation = 5 ft

    · Maximum Digging Depth = 16 ft

    · Angle of swing = 85 deg

    % Depth of cut = 5/16 = 0.31 = 31%

    From Table 3,

Swing depth factor for 30% depth and 75⁰ = 1.21

Swing depth factor for 30% depth and 90⁰ = 1.15

    Swing depth factor for 30% depth and 85⁰ (S) = 1.19

    4. Cycles per hour

    From Table 4,

Cycles per hour for hard clay with medium excavator (n) = 130

    5. Adjustment factor

    From table 5,

    (0.95 +1.00) Average adjustment factor for firm plastic soils(A) = 2 0.975

    6. Productivity

    Given Data:

    · Heaped capacity of bucket (C) = 2 CY

    · Efficiency E = 85%

Production in BCY per hour can be calculated by below formula:

    85 P = C x ExLXF1S X X 4 = 2x x 0.77 x 0.80 x 1.19 x 130 x 0.975 = 157.95 BCY/hr 100

Hope the same is clear. In case of any clarifications, please leave comment in comments section.

A 1000-ft (305-m)-long pipeline requires an excavation 4 ft (1.2 m) wide to an aver- age depth of 5 ft (1.5 m). If the soil is dry common earth, what size spoil bank will be created by the excavation?
